The implementation of the new Energy Efficiency Plan anticipates a reduction of 15% to 20% of the annual energy consumption of the Department of Culture's real state stock.The Energy Efficiency Plan promoted by the Catalan Government's Department of Culture through the Catalan Cultural Heritage Agency, aims to manage museums, monuments and archaeological sites in a more efficient and sustainable way, encompassing maintenance and energy efficiency in all centers.

Architect Eva Jimenez receives the Special Doctoral Award UPC
Architect Eva Jimenez was awarded on the 23rd September the Special Doctoral Award UPC 2014 for her PhD thesis "The column in Mies van der Rohe. The lexicon of steel". The Special Prizes UPC are awarded every year to the most outstanding of the PhD theses that were awarded a cum laude distinction. The board assesses the scientific contribution of these theses over the course of two academic years from their defence, and chooses the best of them.

Competition for the renovation of the COAC facade
Object of the competitionThe object of the competition, presented at the Association headquarters on January 14th, is to select the best tender for the facade renovation, which must follow certain criteria when reinterpreting the look and materials used in the original 1962 project by Xavier Busquets, while simultaneously improving on building performance in terms of environmental and energy efficiency, insulation, noise control and ease of maintenance.

The Government of Catalonia starts the process for the new...
On Tuesday 3 December, the Executive Council approved the report prior to processing the draft law for the new Architecture Act, with the aim of getting the new legal text passed by the end of 2014.The overall objective is to highlight public interest in architecture, ensuring its preservation as a cultural and social asset, and distinguishing it as an essential means of guaranteeing social cohesion and people’s wellbeing by setting quality objectives for all kinds of projects.

The COAC wins plaudits for its international outreach
The award was given in recognition of the COAC’s efforts to internationalize Catalan architects. The awards ceremony was held on Tuesday 3 December in the Plenary Room of the Senate in Madrid and was attended by HRH Felipe, Prince of Asturias, the Minister for Public Works, Ana Pastor, the President of the Senate, Pío García Escudero, and the President of the CSCAE, Jordi Ludevid.

COAC's new website
The website of the Architects’ Association has been given a total makeover. Obviously, architects and architecture are the protagonists. The new website aims to provide an essential tool to help reposition the role of architects within our society, while at the same time promoting the social and cultural values of architecture.
