Times are changing rapidly and so is our profession. The traditional figure of the architect is being transformed into an increasingly diversified and more open profession, in which young professionals are constantly reinventing themselves and taking advantage of the diversity of knowledge provided by architectural studies and their application in other fields.
In an ever more global world that is constantly changing, channels of communication have become essential tools for carving out a niche in the labour market. The task of communicating has become a hugely important tool in the profession of the architect, and this knowledge is not necessarily available in universities.
mARQet was established with the specific objective of helping young architects in this challenging task of communication—and what better channel could there be than the market itself, the epitome of trade?
Following the success of its first edition, mARQet aims to continue providing support and improving year after year. It has therefore been decided to transfer mARQet to Arts Santa Mònica, a central and very visible venue, accompanied by a series of side events both during the day and in the evening.
The Architects’ Fair will take place on 24, 25 and 26 October, and all you need to do to participate is read the rules and submit your application. Places are open until every available space in Arts Santa Mònica has been filled.
mARQet will be held in the balcony hall, spilling over onto the outside ramp, highlighting its relationship with society and the outside world. The Catalan Government’s support has helped the project grow and flourish, to demonstrate that the profession of the architect is about culture and that we need to nurture, protect and promote it. This year, mARQet coincides with the 9th edition of the AJAC Awards, organized every two years by the Association of Young Architects of Catalonia.
The prize-giving ceremony of the 9th AJAC Awards will be held at Arts Santa Mònica on the evening of Friday 24 October, as part of mARQet’s programme of activities.

Architect Eva Jimenez receives the Special Doctoral Award UPC

Architect Eva Jimenez was awarded on the 23rd September the Special Doctoral Award UPC 2014 for her PhD thesis "The column in Mies van der Rohe. The lexicon of steel".
The Special Prizes UPC are awarded every year to the most outstanding of the PhD theses that were awarded a cum laude distinction. The board assesses the scientific contribution of these theses over the course of two academic years from their defence, and chooses the best of them.
Eva Jimenez's thesis provides a new interpretation, both technologically and contextualized, of the architecture of Mies van der Rohe. Her study reveals three periods in the work of Mies that correspond to the development of three different columns and they are result of technological transfers between Mies and Peter Behrens, Mies and Albert Kahn, and Mies and Konrad Wachsmann, respectively.
The thesis is recommended by the architectural magazine Tectonica, and it is published on the repository of PhD thesis TDX and Open accesss Thesis and Desertations, of international scope.
Eva Jimenez is a training coordinator at Escola Sert COAC and she is a member of the Architect's Association of Catalonia.

La arquitecta Eva Jiménez recibe el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado de la UPC

La arquitecta Eva Jiménez ha sido premiada el pasado 23 de septiembre con el Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado de la UPC 2014 por su tesis doctoral “El pilar en Mies van der Rohe. El léxico del acero”.
Los premios extraordinarios de la UPC se convocan anualmente para premiar las mejores tesis doctorales y valoran la producción científica que deriva de ellas durante los dos cursos posteriores a su defensa.
La tesis de Eva Jiménez aporta una nueva interpretación, tanto tecnológica como contextualizada, sobre la arquitectura de Mies van der Rohe. Su estudio revela la existencia de tres períodos en la obra de Mies que corresponden al desarrollo de tres pilares diferentes y son resultado de una transferencia tecnológica entre Mies y Peter Behrens, Mies y Albert Kahn, y Mies y Konrad Wachsmann, respectivamente.
La tesis está recomendada por la revista Tectónica. Monografías de arquitectura, tecnología y construcción y publicada en la base de datos TDX y en Open Accesss Thesis and Desertations, de ámbito internacional.

El Colegio a tu medida

El Colegio está llevando a cabo un cambio en su sistema de quotas con el objetivo de irlas ajustando a las neceseidades de los colegiadosy al servicio que el COAC les ofrece. Ya se puede consultar en la web la información detallada sobre los servicios que quedan incluídos en cada una de las modalidades que entrarán en vigor a partir del mes de Octubre, Cuota Colegial Básica y Servicios Complementarios.
La Cuota Colegial Básica se aplicará a todos los colegiados, ejercientes y no ejercientes, y incluirá todos aquellos servicios y actividades que el Colegio realiza a partir de las obligaciones que marca la legislación vigente. Por otro lado, el Tramo de Servicios Complementarios, de carácter voluntario, incluirá los servicios de soporte y desarrollo profesionales.
Entrada en vigor
A partir del 25 de Septiembre y hasta el 15 de Octubre los arquitectos colegiados podrán escoger la modalidad de su cuota, a través de la página web, en un espacio habilitado a tales efectos. La próxima cuota de este año, correspondiente al 4º trimestre, se enviará a finales de Octubre y ya tendrá en cuenta las modalidades activas a fecha 15 de Octubre. Posteriormente a esta fecha, se podrá modificar la modalidad, teniendo en cuenta los periodos de regularización que el Colegio ha establecido (mensualmente para la Cuota Colegial Básica y trimestralmente en relación al Tramo Complemetario).
Precios
Se pueden consultar los precios de cada modalidad a través de la página web de Cuotas. Se tiene que tener en cuenta que en la próxima cuota el precio que se aplicará será el proporcional de un trimestre, es decir, en ningún caso el COAC cobrará el importe anual. Se mantienen los precios reducidos para los colegiados jubilades y expatriados y durante los 3 primeros años de colegiación.
