Els turistes valoren l'arquitectura de Barcelona com l'aspecte més destacat de la ciutat

Turisme de Barcelona ha publicat les estadístiques de turisme correponents a 2014. En la valoració de Barcelona, enquestats sobre diferents aspectes de la ciutat, els turistes valoren com a primer aspecte destacat de la ciutat la seva oferta arquitectònica, que puntuen amb un 8,8 sobre 10, situant-se per davant de l’oferta cultural o l’oci i entreteniment. Això no és nou, doncs al menys des de 2007, l'oferta arquitectònica és l'element més valorat pels turistes.
Entre els Espais d’Interès Arquitectònic, els més visitats durant el 2014 han estat: la Basílica de la Sagrada Família, amb 3.260.880 de visitants; i el Park Güell, amb 2.598.732. Altres espais destacats, per ordre de visitants, són La Pedrera, la Casa Batlló, el Castell de Montjuïc, els Espais Patrimonials del MUHBA, el Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau, el Palau Güell, el Palau de la Música Catalana i el Pavelló Mies van der Rohe.
El nombre total de turistes que han visitat Espais d’Interès Arquitectònic, segons les estadístiques de Barcelona Turisme, són 11.092.473.
Les dades provenen de la publicació Estadístiques de turisme a Barcelona i comarques. Síntesi 2014, elaborada per Turisme de Barcelona, l'Ajuntament de Barcelona i la Diputació de Barcelona, que recull les principals dades estadístiques de l'activitat turística a la ciutat de Barcelona i les comarques de Barcelona.

Norwegian artist Carl Nesjar passes away

Painter, sculptor and photographer Carl Nesjar passed away on May 23rd at the age of 94. COAC had a special relation to Nesjar, who was recognized as one of the most important contemporary artists of Norway. He carried out the sgraffiti of the COAC headquarters' facade in Barcelona, based on Picasso's drawings made specifically for our building.
Carl Nesjar was born in the town of Larvik (Norway) in 1920. During World War II he studied Art and Design at the Royal Academy of Oslo. He spent his youth in New York, first studying at the Pratt Institute and, later on, at Columbia University, with Professor Meyer Schapiro.
His work was characterized by experimentation with different materials, which allowed him to develop, in collaboration with architect Erling Viksjö, the new technique of graphic decoration on concrete. This was the technique used on our headquarters' facade. The building of our headquarters in Barcelona, designed by architect Xavier Busquets, were an opportunity to launch a new collaboration between Spanish artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso and Carl Nesjar.

FAD Thought and Criticism Award 2015

The last issue of the journal Quaderns d'arquitectura i urbanisme (issue 265) has been granted the FAD Thought and Criticism Award 2015.
The journal, which features a leading article titled Home and contradiction, is dedicated to housing and contains an interview with Ada Colau, held before becoming Mayor of Barcelona. The journal presents several houses and pays special attention to cooperative housing, discussing with architects Martí Anson and Manuel Brullet about their experience with a collective housing built in Mataro.

COAC congratulates the editorial staff of the journal, formed by Ethel Baraona, Guillermo López, Anna Puigjaner and José Zabala, for the Award, given exaequo with the Desierto manifesto by Gabriel Ruiz-Larrea, Nuria Úrculo and Natalia David.
