Catalan Book Week at the COAC
Today, Friday 5 September, marks the opening of the thirty-first edition of Catalan Book Week on the avenue in front of the Cathedral of Barcelona. Up until Sunday 15 September, a total of 75 exhibitors will be gathering to form part of a programme that includes almost 250 activities, some of which are taking place in Plaça Nova and at the COAC headquarters, where the mezzanine level has been set up as the ‘Agora Venue’.
On Monday 9 September, at 6 pm, this venue will be hosting a talk on 100 years of the architects Bonet, Coderch, Moragas and Pratmarsó, organized by the COAC and the Jordi Capell Cooperative with the participation of Joan Roig, Josep M. Montaner, Josep M. Rovira and Pilar de la Villa.
On Friday 15 September, at 6.45 pm, the presentation of Revistes d’Arquitectura will take place in the ‘Plaça de la Paraula’ with the participation of architects and members of the editorial teams of the publications Aproximacions, Diagonal and Quaderns.
During the course of the week, the mezzanine in the Plaça Nova building will also be hosting the exhibition ‘Traços d’Història’ [Traces of History], a journey through the works of Oriol Garcia Quera, a draughtsman who has recorded different stages in the history of Catalonia in his comics. His work covers episodes ranging from the first monarch, Wilfred the Hairy, and the origin of the Catalan nation, through to the disastrous defeat of 1714. His albums are a blend of historical rigour and fiction.
The Catalan Book Week is offering a discount of 5% on the purchase of books from any of the exhibition stands to all members of the COAC.
Uns habitatges universitaris de Mestura, premi MEA 2013
El projecte de Mestura (Humbert Costas, Manuel Gómez Triviño, Jaime Blanco, Carlos Durán, i Josep M. Estapé, ha obtingut el màxim guardó en la primera edició del certámen, organitzat per Build Green Magazine, i que reconeix obres sustentades en criteris de sosteniblitat realitzades als països mediterranis en els darrers cinc anys.
L’acte de lliurament dels premis es va dur a terme el 27 de novembre a Atenes.

Premi internacional per a Felip i Camps
Al premi, que els hi va ser lliurat a Londres el passat 3 de desembre, optaven setanta candidatures d’arquitectes joves de tot Europa, entre els quals van ser triats cinc finalistes.
El jurat ha reconegut la tasca d'Arquitecturia "en el clima professional més difícil" de tots els finalistes, donada la situació que travessa la construcció i l'arquitectura a Espanya.
Es destaca també la varietat sorprenentment àmplia de la seva pràctica professional, que inclou la docència, el treball amb el cineasta Albert Serra, la recerca en noves exposicions temporals o el desenvolupament d’un sistema d’habitatges industrialitzats.
Benedetta Tagliabue, premio RIBA Jencks 2013
Este galardón reconoce anualmente la contribucion internacional a la teoría o el ejercicio de la arquitectura realizado por un arquitecto o un estudio.
Charles Jenks, que presidirá el acto de entrega del mes de noviembre, ha dicho sobre Tagliabue que, desde el estudio que creó con Enric Miralles, ha desarrollado un nuevo tipo de práctica en la arquitectura y la forma de construir, que denomina "arquitectura aglutinante".
Así, afirma que EMBT muestra un continuo trabajo en progreso, fuerte, cálido, sorprendente, complejo, abierto y muy parecido a la ciudad de la que surge, Barcelona.
En ediciones anteriores este galardón ha sido concedido a Rem Koolhaas, Eric Owen Moss , Stephen Holl, Charles Correa, Ben van Berkel y Caroline Bos, Zaha Hadid y Alejandro Zaera y Farshid Moussavi.
